I consider myself a pretty superstitious person. I do all the recognized things a superstitious person might do-I never walk under a ladder, I won't let a black cat cross my path, and I certainly believe that shattering a mirror will give me seven years bad luck. I also have my own preconceived notions of what will give me bad luck or what is a bad omen: I never step on cracks in the floor, I make positive all of my light dimmer switches are all the way up even when the light is off, and my closet door must stay closed at all times. I've become aware that when I don't do these things something bad always inescapably happens. One night I slept with my light switches off, and my cat was gone by morning. Another time, I stepped on a crack on the sidewalk and I was axed from my job the next day. But then something happened that seemed to actually bring me good luck: wearing my bead bracelet with exactly three beads on it.
